MY PHILOSOPHY
As an educator, my personal philosophy is to encourage and teach students to become the best versions of themselves. As a PD/H/PE teacher, promoting inclusion is a fundamental aspect to my pedagogy. I want my classroom environment to be a safe a supportive environment where all my students feel comfortable to approach me with any academic or personal issue. I want to inspire my students by delivering lessons that are meaningful and relate to the learner’s world. I want my foundation of teaching and learning to be built on trust by building relationships and knowing who my students are. Understanding my learners underpins my pedagogy. Using real life experiences to learn will allow students to set life goals for long-term achievement and success.
I believe that every student deserves an education regardless of cultural, socio-economic or gender status. I believe that the promotion and understanding of cultural and social diversity is a positive tool to teach the younger generation in a fast paced technologically driven world. It is my job as a teacher to facilitate the pathways of all the students I teach to promote inclusion and to create a supportive learning environment.
I believe communication is the key to positive relationships and the foundation of deep and meaningful learning. I intend to create a safe and supportive learning environment where communication allows opportunities for students to navigate their everyday lives and feel comfortable in articulating their thoughts fears and dreams within this environment.
I envision my classroom to be supportive and a collaborative partnership between the students and myself. I believe collaborative learning is a dynamic tool that supports learning and growth. Understanding how to function as a group requires lifelong skills of cooperation, respect, resilience and flexibility and promotes community minded people.
A supportive environment is a key element of my classroom. Knowing my learners and my learners knowing why they are learning creates a philosophy of self-determination and learning with purpose. Teaching students to take responsibility for their own learning with set achievable goals minimises the incidence of negative behaviour as they are personally invested in their own learning outcomes. These skills are long term learning skills that can stimulate and create future life success. As a teacher I want my students to understand the importance of learning and also empower them with self-knowledge and self-determination. I want to guide them in their development as adolescents into young adults with confidence and motivation by encouraging them to become the person they aspire to be in the world they live in.
